Today’s post is focused on the importance of underwear meaning a nail polish to use under another main one. There are many polishes that require, or benefit of, an underwear, a different one depending on what we are talking about. Now I wanna focus on duo and multichromes and my helper will be Max Factor Fantasy Fire. This polish needs no introduction, it’s well known to all polish lovers. The vast majority of multichromatic polishes tend to be sheer and they won’t look at all like the bottle if you don’t know how to pull them out. It’s quite common in the nail polish world to use a black base underneath multichromes. Black undies are always a win ;) But some of you might not know that depending on the base you use, you get a different result. Black is always a good choice, but not always the best one! Or simply, only one of many possible.
I tend to pick a base starting from the colours in the bottle, same as I would do for real undies depending on the clothes I wear. Max Factor Fantasy Fire called for a purple base :) Let’s have a look.
I used five different shades from pink to purple, you can see them in my purple ombre post here, and now you can see the huge difference they make out of FF.

Ebbene sì, oggi vi spiego per bene cosa intendiamo io e le mie smaltamiche quando parliamo di mutanda. E’ semplicemente una mia traduzione letterale e ironica del termine underwear, che tra noi smaltare sta a indicare un colore di base da usare sotto ad uno principale. Ci sono molti tipi di smalti che gradiscono avere una mutanda, e quale dipende tutto dal tipo. Oggi mi voglio soffermare sugli smalti duo e multicromatici e il mio assistente sarà il Max Factor Fantasy Fire, che non ha certo bisogno di presentazioni. La gran parte degli smalti duochrome tende ad essere trasparente e per arrivare ad avere un colore come quello della boccetta ve ne servirà qualche litro. Nel mondo di noi smaltare è usanza comune metterci sotto una base nera per farne risaltare i riflessi. La mutanda nera è sempre un passepartout! Però forse non sapete che a seconda della base cambia anche il risultato, e non sempre la mutanda nera è l’opzione migliore, o semplicemente è solo una delle tante possibili.
Io tendo a scegliere la base a seconda del colore dello smalto, esattamente come scelgo gli slip a seconda dei pantaloni. Il Max Factor Fantasy Fire chiamava mutanda viola! Diamo un’occhiata?
Ho usato 5 diverse tonalità dal viola al rosa, potete vederle nel mio post purple ombre qui, e adesso potrete vedere la gran differenza che fanno sotto il FF.
The blackened purple on my pinkie turns Fantasy Fire into a maroon shifting to green. The medium purple on my ring is probably the one that makes Fantasy Fire closest to the bottle colour: it goes from purple to blue to green. The lavender base on my middle is also a good pick, the shift goes from pink to purple and occasionally green. Pink on my index is probably too light as a base. Fantasy Fire kinda stains it and it doesn’t add too much other that a nice shimmer.
Underneath you can see an even lighter pink base on my pinkie.
Il viola quasi nero sul mignolo fa diventare il Fantasy Fire un marrone che cambia in verde. Il viola medio sul’anulare è forse quello che più ci porta al colore della boccetta: va da viola a blu a verde. Il lavanda sul medio è anch’esso una buona scelta, si va da rosa a viola con accenni di verde. Il rosa sull’indice è forse una base troppo chiara. Il Fantasy Fire va a sporcare il colore e aggiunge solo un riflesso, ma nulla di più.
Sotto vedete anche un rosa ancora più chiaro sul mignolo.

And that was it! I hope I could show you the importance and the difference the right underwear makes. Maybe it’s time to take out those duochromes you used with black undies and use something coloured instead ;)
